AHLTH-5200: Social Determinants of Health

In order to efficiently serve and advocate for communities, healthcare leaders must understand the complexities of our diverse communities. Healthcare leaders must understand the factors that determine a “healthy” lifestyle, or lack thereof. The social determinants of health (SDOH) are the conditions that affect that lifestyle. SDOH includes a wide range of health functions and the quality-of-life risks. This course will dissect the five domains within the social determinants of health, as defined by the US Department of Health and Human Services, and explore the complexities hidden within each. The course will prepare students to develop strategies in addressing those complexities within the healthcare system and society as a whole.
