Program Overview

The Certificate in Addictions Counseling program provides high-quality specialized training for mental health professionals seeking to prevent and address the pervasive and ongoing impact of substance misuse and addiction. The certificate is designed to enhance clinicians’ knowledge and skills in addictions counseling, including understanding and applying current treatment approaches, developing advocacy skills, and assessing, supporting, and promoting recovery for individuals, families, and communities.

The program is open to professionals who hold a graduate degree in an allied mental health field and can be tailored to individual professional goals. All courses align with CACREP accreditation requirements. Additionally, completing all five of the courses in the certificate program meets the educational requirements for the alternate educational path for Washington’s Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) certification, and may satisfy many or all educational requirements for addictions counseling certification in other states.
