This program is designed to lead to the State of Ohio PK-12 Reading Endorsement.


Please note: This certificate is not eligible to use Title IV financial aid at this time.

Program Overview

Educators in the Ohio PK-12 Reading Endorsement program examine historical and current theories and research in reading acquisition and instruction, with an emphasis on the Science of Reading (SOR). Science of Reading informs instruction and application of methods of reading assessment and evidence-based practices in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.

To meet program requirements for the Antioch Ohio Reading Endorsement, students must successfully complete the required 12 credits of course work and accrue a minimum of 50 clinical hours (completed and evaluated in conjunction with specific courses).

To qualify for the Ohio Reading Endorsement, students must have also earned 12 additional hours of reading (including phonics) at the undergraduate or graduate level; and pass the Ohio Assessments for Educators (OAE) exam, Reading Subtests I and II (038/039). Students apply for the endorsement through the Ohio Department of EducationThis program can be completed in 2 semesters, fully online. Students typically take 6 credits per semester.

Required for Admission:

  • Current Ohio teacher license (or license in progress) (Expired Ohio Teaching License may be considered with permission of the Associate Dean of Education).
  • All prior transcripts, a resume, two letters of recommendation, and an admission essay
  • All applicants must have a formal interview with a program representative prior to a formal admission decision.
