Program Overview

The Master of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics (MSND) at Antioch University prepares graduates to become competent, compassionate, and collaborative registered dietitian who are committed to improving nutrition and health outcomes for diverse individuals and communities. Guided by the program’s mission to develop leaders and advocates who work to eliminate health disparities, the MSND program emphasizes evidence-based nutrition practice, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a strong commitment to equity and public health. Students develop the knowledge, skills, and professional values necessary to provide high-quality nutrition care while addressing the social, economic, and structural factors that influence health and food access.

The curriculum integrates rigorous academic coursework with supervised experiential learning (SEL) at program-provided sites throughout Central Ohio. Through these experiences, students apply nutrition science in real-world settings including hospitals, outpatient clinics, long-term care facilities, schools, public health departments, and community organizations. Antioch coordinates these placements through established partnerships, allowing students to focus on developing professional competencies while engaging in meaningful practice experiences.

A distinguishing feature of the MSND program is its systems-based approach to nutrition and health. Students explore the full continuum of the food system, from local food production and sustainable agriculture to community nutrition programs and clinical care. Students examine the structural drivers of food insecurity, health inequities, and diet-related disease. Learning experiences include engagement with community partners such as local farmers, food banks, and public health initiatives, helping students understand how dietitians can influence food systems, strengthen community health, and expand equitable access to nutritious foods.

The MSND program is delivered primarily through distance learning with select in-person workshops held on the campus of Otterbein University. These short, intensive sessions allow students to develop and practice essential clinical and professional skills in a collaborative learning environment alongside faculty and peers. Because supervised experiential learning placements occur at program-provided sites throughout Central Ohio, students are expected to reside in the region during the program.

Graduates of the MSND program are prepared to sit for the registration examination administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration and pursue credentialing as registered dietitians.
