Students will gain foundational principles of evidence-based practice (EBP) and healthcare informatics, equipping them with the skills to critically evaluate research and apply data-driven approaches in patient care. Students will explore literature appraisal techniques, recognizing bias, develop skills in comprehensive literature review writing, and learn to incorporate informatics tools to enhance clinical decision-making. Course topics include: ·Formulating focused research questions, literature searching, and critical appraisal methods to evaluate the quality and relevance of studies. ·Writing a literature review that examines the impact of social determinants of health on athletic training outcomes and quality assurance. ·Introduction to healthcare informatics, emphasizing data privacy, security, and effective use of electronic health records (EHRs) and medical coding (ICD and CPT) for patient care and quality improvement. ·Developing a Critically Appraised Topic (CAT) that synthesizes evidence to support clinical practice. Through interactive assignments, such as journal clubs, informatics reflections, and group projects, students will gain proficiency in utilizing informatics tools and evidence-based approaches to address healthcare challenges.
