ATR-5300: Applied Therapeutic Interventions

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of therapeutic interventions used in athletic training to prevent, treat, and rehabilitate injuries. Emphasizing evidence-based practice and patient-centered care, students will develop the knowledge and clinical skills necessary to design and implement individualized treatment plans. The course integrates biomechanical principles, health informatics, and cultural competence to ensure effective and inclusive patient care across diverse populations. Key areas of focus include: Selection and application of therapeutic modalities, corrective exercises, joint mobilizations, soft tissue techniques, and proprioceptive activities to optimize patient outcomes. Development of comprehensive, patient-centered care plans using the International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) framework. Ongoing assessment and adjustment of treatment plans based on patient-reported and clinician-rated outcome measures. Incorporation of health literacy and social determinants of health into patient education and self-care programs to promote engagement in recovery. Use of health informatics and quality assurance systems to inform clinical decision-making and enhance care delivery. Administration of therapeutic agents and medications under appropriate legal authorization. Application of biometrics and physiological monitoring systems to guide clinical interventions and performance enhancement. Culturally competent care, recognizing the impact of group identity, intersectionality, and healthcare disparities on patient outcomes. Through hands-on lab experiences, case studies, and applied clinical scenarios, students will refine their ability to implement effective therapeutic interventions. By the conclusion of this course, students will be prepared to provide individualized, evidence-based treatment to diverse patient populations in alignment with professional athletic training standards.
