CFT-5103: Applied Couples and Relational Therapy

In this residency/intensive course, students will delve into the core principles and theories of couple therapy, with a particular emphasis on empirically validated therapies. This course is designed to provide students with the theoretical foundations and practical skills necessary to conduct effective couple therapy, including assessment, intervention techniques, and an understanding of couple dynamics and power. Through role-plays, students will apply learned theories and receive feedback on their techniques, further enhancing their therapeutic skills. This course also presents an exploration of contemporary issues in couple therapy, such as polyamory, consensual non-monogamy, and pre-marital counseling, while also promoting an understanding of multicultural dynamics and the impact of race, ethnicity, class, spirituality, sexual orientation, gender, and disability on therapeutic processes. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: A.2. Theoretical Approaches.
