CFT-5300: Human Sexuality & Gender Affirming Care

This course provides a comprehensive exploration of human sexuality and gender affirming care, taught through an anti-racist and anti-oppression framework. Students will critically examine the intersections of race, gender, sexuality, and systemic power, with a focus on addressing health disparities and promoting equity in clinical and educational settings. Emphasizing culturally responsive practices, the course will cover topics such as sexual identity, orientation, gender diversity, and the impact of societal norms on sexual health and wellness. Students will engage with contemporary research, case studies, and experiential learning to develop practical skills in delivering affirming care to marginalized communities, including BIPOC, LGBTQIAA+, and gender-expansive individuals. Special attention will be given to how systemic oppression shapes experiences of sexuality and access to gender-affirming care. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with tools to advocate for inclusive practices in healthcare, therapy, and educational settings. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: B.10. Cultural, Social and Intersectional Diversity.
