CFT-6800: Research & Evaluation in CFT

This course familiarizes students with clinically relevant qualitative and quantitative research methods, including clinical outcome research and program evaluation. The course aims to deepen students’ understanding of statistical concepts and terminology related to research methods and their application in evidence-based practice in CFT. Emphasis will be placed on the examination of professional ethical guidelines for conducting research, issues of diversity in research and evaluation, and the major themes and controversies in CFT. Students will learn to use research to enhance their knowledge and to critically analyze their work and the work of others. The course will equip students to present research or research designs supporting their treatment approach and client outcome within a selected client population. Moreover, the course fosters an appreciation for the value of research and the role of empirical literature in clinical practice. Art Therapy Specialization Note - Students in the AT specialization will cover CAAHEP required content, including: B.5. Assessment, Appraisal & Evaluation, B.7. Art & Counseling Techniques for Working Relationships, D.1. Research Methods, D.2. Art-based Research Methods/ Art Therapy Research, and D.4. Ethical, legal, social, and cultural considerations.
