ECL-8020: Memoir & Identity

Memoir and Identity examines the origins, evolution, and contemporary practice of life-writing with specific focus on personal, social, and cultural identities. The goal of the seminar is to introduce students to some of the core questions and issues raised in memoir writing particularly as related to identity, diversity issues, and social justice. Throughout the seminar, we will examine how writing our own personal narratives, together with reading, research, and critical thinking, challenges us to consider the many issues associated with identity, memory, subjectivity, and interpretation-basically, the role and meaning of our stories within our culture.
