EDUC-5570: Mathematics in Elementary Education I K-3This combined content and methods course is based on the mathematics content standards developed by the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) and Washington state including Number and Operations, Patterns, Functions and Algebra, Geometry, and Data Analysis, Statistics and Probability. Teacher candidates will develop a deep understanding of the field of mathematics relevant to elementary education and how it may be taught through a variety of methods. Candidates explore the areas of number sense, algebraic sense, and the meaning behind the algorithms of arithmetic. Faculty model a variety of instructional techniques that also embed the concepts and principles of multicultural education. This course is repeatable for credit. Students must complete 6 credits of this course. Min.
