See the Undergraduate Studies: General Degree Requirements  page for an explanation of undergraduate general education requirements.

Addiction Studies Minor

Our Addiction Studies core curriculum fosters a global perspective regarding the impact of addiction on the individual, family, and community while engaging strength-based approaches to prevention, intervention, and treatment. Through the integration of theoretical understanding and experiential learning, students engaged in the Addiction Studies Concentration will gain a critical understanding of addiction and its social implications, as well as the ethical issues surrounding the addiction treatment profession.

Students must complete a minimum of 20 units for a Minor Area of Concentration. The faculty recommends that at least one half of the units counted toward the concentration be upper division.

Fast Track into the Graduate Psychology Program

Through the Fast Track program, eligible students may earn 9-12 quarter units toward the Master of Arts in Psychology (MAP) Program during their final one or two quarters in the BA Program. Fast Track units count towards graduation requirements for both the bachelor’s degree and the master’s degree, thus saving time and tuition costs.

Curriculum

Our courses are offered in rotation throughout the year and students are encouraged to build courses from the list below into their program of study. Students are also advised to take a broad range of coursework in the arts, humanities, psychology, science, philosophy, quantitative methods, history, and sociology, in order to gain additional understanding of the complexities that underlie addiction.

Internships

Our Addiction Studies Concentration has established relationships with numerous clinical settings, social advocacy groups, and human service organizations throughout the Los Angeles area. Students in the Addiction Studies Concentration have the option of completing internship units to fulfill a portion of their Concentration requirement, and their overall credit requirement. These placements enable students to gain firsthand experience and to connect classroom learning with practical applications in the field.
