Program Overview
Educators in the Literacy Learning and Teaching, K-12 program examine historical and current theories of reading acquisition and instruction, methods of reading assessment, and evidence-based practices in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Educators learn the Science of Reading framework and discuss its influence on state legislations and school curricula.
This program can be completed in 5-7 semesters with fully online and low residency options available. Students typically take 3-6 credits per term.
Required for admission:
- Completion of the Ohio Reading Endorsement courses (listed below) through Coalition for the Common Good approved institution (Otterbein or Antioch) (12 credits, plus 50 clinical hours).
- Current Ohio teacher licensure. Expired Ohio Teaching License may be considered with permission of the Associate Dean of Education.
