This program is designed to lead to the State of Ohio K-12 Reading Endorsement.
Please note: This certificate is not eligible to use Title IV financial aid at this time.
Program Overview
Educators in the Ohio K-12 Reading Endorsement program examine historical and current theories and research in reading acquisition and instruction, with an emphasis on the Science of Reading (SOR). Science of Reading informs instruction and application of methods of reading assessment and evidence-based practices in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension.
This program can be completed in 2 semesters, fully online. Students typically take 6 credits per semester.
Required for Admission:
Current Ohio teacher license; 12 credit hours of approved literacy courses (undergraduate or graduate), including phonics. Expired Ohio Teaching License may be considered with permission of the Associate Dean of Education.
*Junior and Senior Otterbein Undergraduate teacher education students may take up to 6 credits of the endorsement prior to graduation from Otterbein.
