General Degree Requirements

All Antioch University undergraduates must meet general education requirements in the areas of Liberal Arts (called Domains of Knowledge), Academic Writing, and Mission-core classes. BA in Liberal Studies, Professional & Creative Writing - General Overview

Transform your passion for writing into a rewarding and successful career. Our Professional & Creative Writing bachelor’s degree concentration gives you the technical skills necessary to work in multiple genres, industries and distribution platforms. Expose yourself to writing in disciplines such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, traditional media, technical and business writing, and new media.

Students must complete a minimum of 40 units for a Major Area of Concentration, and a  minimum of 20 units for a Minor Area of Concentration. The faculty recommends that at least one half of the units counted toward the concentration be upper division.

The Professional & Creative Writing concentration exposes students to a variety of different writing styles and platforms while they decide on the genre of work they wish to pursue.

Internships


AUSB has established relationships with numerous organizations in the Santa Barbara area. Students have the option of completing up to 6 internship units to fulfill their Community-Based Learning requirement, and more than 6 units if desired. These placements enable students to gain firsthand experience and to connect classroom learning with practical applications in the field.
